God Of War Ragnarok Hel Tears Locations And Rewards

Closing the chaotic rifts known as Hel Tears in God of War Ragnarok is an essential favor for players looking to fully upgrade their equipment. Triggered during the main story campaign, the Hel to Pay favor challenges players to defend companions against relentless waves of Hel-walkers while closing six distinct tears across the realms.
How to Unlock and Complete Hel Tears
The Hel to Pay side quest begins automatically during Chapter 12: Reunion when Kratos and Atreus encounter the initial rifts. To seal a tear, players must interact with the rift and defend their companion for a set period as enemies attack. Successfully holding off the horde until the timer runs out permanently seals the rift and awards valuable resources.
Story-Related Hel Tear Locations
The first Hel Tear is automatically encountered and sealed at Sindri's House as part of the main story progression. Shortly after, players will discover the second story-mandated tear in Helheim at The Gleaming Bale while navigating through the main quest line. Because both of these rifts are integrated directly into Chapter 12, they cannot be missed by players advancing the campaign.
Optional Hel Tear Locations Across the Realms
After completing the main story events in Helheim, players can track down the remaining four tears freely across the map. One tear is located at the Aurvangar Wetlands in Svartalfheim near the shore platform, while another can be found in Alfheim near The Strond Mystic Gateway. The final two tears are situated near the Well of Urd in Midgard and right past the Mystic Gateway in The Southern Wilds of Vanaheim.
Hel Tear Rewards and Weapon Upgrades
Closing each Hel Tear rewards players with a Frozen Spark along with experience points and crafting materials like Essence of Hel. Collecting all six Frozen Sparks automatically combines them into a complete Frozen Flame. Players can take this rare material to Huldra Brothers' forge to max out the upgrade path for the Leviathan Axe.
